The audiobook for Fox's Tongue and Kirin's Bone is the best audiobook I've ever listened to. I read the book first and listened to the audiobook a few weeks later and then got my brother to listen to the audiobook and he loved it too. The narrator perfectly captures the story and I noticed so many details that I missed the first time. I'm loving book two, but my brother has insane willpower and is waiting until it's finished and published in hopes that there will be an audiobook version lol.
Gary Furlong did an amazing job! And good news: I'm signed for a three book deal, so that's a yes on an audiobook version of book two, likely sometime next year. <3

✦ MY WRITEBLR INTRODUCTION ✦
Hey! I've been here for a while and I've somehow amassed a shocking amount of followers and mutuals, so I figured it's finally time for me to force one of these out for you guys!
(And you know... a masterpost... when I get around to it. 😅😭)
Tumblr media
About me:
✦ Barlowe (she/her)
✦ In my early 20s
✦ A writer of 10 years ✦ working on novels for 6 of 10!
✦ Less dedicated to—but still interested in!—drawing, animation, photography, and cinematography
✦ AuDHD and a grey lesbian (aka I'm leaning asexual) ✦ (my writing may or may not be a special interest)
✦ I have a whole bunch of other neurodivergencies besides AuDHD but I don't think y'all want me to get into all of them, haha. ✦ oh, and I say "haha" a lot. I apologize in advance.
✦ I think I'm hilarious and make jokes constantly
✦ I use a lot of emojis and tone tags to help convey tone. Please forgive me if it's annoying, it's to cope with my inability to communicate. /lh /hj
Tumblr media
Masterlists:
✦ General ✦ Worldbuilding ✦ Sun and Shadow ✦ The Arcane Rifts ✦ Rising From the Ashes
(will be added eventually)
Tumblr media
My Obsessions:
✦ Fantasy, horror, mystery, action, and exploration of realistic characters' reactions to the things they go through.
✦ Fairy tales, mythology, and folklore
✦ "Ye Olde History" and language
✦ DIVERSITY!!!
✦ Explorations of "evil-coded" characters and abilities--aka, not just showing them as evil. Show them as people (for characters) and tools (for abilities)!
✦ Traumatizing my characters just like I've been
✦ Traumatizing my characters in ways I haven't been!
✦ Learning!!!
✦ Talking way too much about the things I like to the point that I need to make a whole separate post to share it so it doesn't clutter my intro post... oh, hey, why is this linked?
✦ THE AESTHETIC!!!!
Tumblr media
My Aesthetics:
Those who've been following me for a bit probably know that I adore "the aesthetic" and try to make my posts look nice... even if there's no real reason to besides that it gives me a little serotonin. Here's my favorite aesthetics!
✦ Starry; night sky ✦ Dawn / dusk ✦ Sunrise / sunset
✦ Nature! ✦ Forestry ✦ Cottagecore ✦ Rustic ✦ Ocean
✦ Literally all of them, please and thank you
Tumblr media
My Writing:
✎ Sun and Shadow
Everything goes wrong for Freya Ula when she leaves her simple life as a fisherwoman to get engaged overseas. Her ship gets wrecked, she finds out her dad's been hiding secrets from her for her whole life, and, oh, she gets framed for a terrorist attack. Wait, WHAT!? After the city's greatest detective is attacked and disappears before she could consult with him, Frey has to enlist the help of his kid and her would-be fiancée to find out who framed her and clear her name. If only Crow was half as good a detective their dad was supposed to be.
Main characters: Freya, Crow, Daleira
✦ Urban-esque high fantasy ✦ purposely very tropey in places ✦ however, as always, I love throwing in curveballs. Wonder what's played straight and what I'm going to emotionally destroy you with. Definitely won't be Crow.
✦ Slow-burn romance between Frey and Crow ✦ immediate interest between Frey / Daleira ✦ oh, look, it's a love triangle? ✦ JOKE'S ON YOU, IT'LL ACTUALLY BE POLY ✦ it's just... going to take a while.
✦ Lesbians, lesbians everywhere ✦ though Crow is actually genderfluid and uses they/them for the first book ✦ despite barely having anything written I've already plotted a bit of book 2 ✦ I desperately need help.
✦ Unsurprisingly is a detective mystery with action mixed in ✦ I'm not typically a romance writer, I excel in action fantasy ✦ please have mercy on my soul
✦ Lots of magic, it's high fantasy + victorian aesthetic ✦ (aka "gaslamp fantasy" if you've heard of it) ✦ Frey's got sun-themed magic ✦ gasp, I know ✦ Crow's got shadow magic ✦ wonder why this sounds familiar ✦ Daleira's got, hm, well it's also shadowy! ✦ spoilers 😘
✦ About to be updated en-masse for a writing contest!!!
✎ The Arcane Rifts
Ghosts of past tragedies haunt the town of Kavo after decades of neglect. Fantastical creatures desiring nothing but fear and destruction hide in invisible tears in reality. Gangs and the police are at constant war with one another, there's a shapeshifting monster running amok, and the mayor's assistant suddenly wants a disabled orphan kicked to the streets. A year ago, Gene was discovered in the forest on the outskirts of town, half dead, amnesiac, and unable to even speak the local language. As he had nowhere to go, he was brought to the orphanage of Kavo for a place to stay. Now Caspar, the assistant of the mayor and the man who funds the orphanage, wants him kicked out. When Gene's left to the cold, cruel streets of Kavo on his own, he has to navigate through a town ravaged by decades of neglect and intrigue. Has the corruption truly been purged from the government? Why are godly forces active in Kavo, a small town in a backwater country? And most importantly--will Gene survive?
Main Characters: Gene, Tazin, Mislav, Ludmila, Rada ❧ Gene and Tazin for book 1 ❧ the other 3 start being MCs books 2 and 3 ❧ I guess Nikolai is also a MC tho
❧ Industrial-era rustic high fantasy ❧ mixes fantasy, action, horror, and mystery! ❧ oh helloooooo "ominous feychild" origin? ❧ very strong folkloric and traditional fantasy inspo ❧ except I mean "traditional fantasy" as in ❧ "we don't understand this magic stuff but we're used to it" ❧ not "travel the world adventures!"
❧ VERY involved story with strong themes of discrimination, poverty, exploitation, trauma, and the recovery from trauma ❧ each main and secondary character is one flavor of discriminated against or another in-universe ❧ obviously I try to write it respectfully, but you can't really write bigots being bigots "respectfully"
❧ Has two "main plots" going on simultaneously; technically three ❧ I periodically give the reader updated "character guides" ❧ like they get more recent plot info added kinda like a red-string board to keep you, the audience, up-to-date with info you might've otherwise missed ❧ I think it's really cool and people seem to enjoy it ❧ I know it seems like a lot but please give it a chance
❧ I've literally plotted out pretty much the entirety of the first and second books, and know most of how book 3 will go, yet there's very little out for the current version of the story ❧ part of that is because I'm paused on the 3rd draft
❧ There's lots of timeskips throughout the first two books, but they're mostly to age up the protagonists! Gene, the MC, starts the series at 7. I promise it's not a kid's story though.
❧ The "secondary MC", Nikolai, is the police chief investigating magical stuff going on at the same time. They tie in with the main story involving Gene, though won't appear to for a long while.
❧ The "golden child" series I love more than SaS; however it's on hiatus because I promised people to work on SaS first and SaS is more popular as a romance-focused story. :/ ❧ I would never be salty about that.

Writeblr Intro
Hello! My name is Kit. I am new to writeblr, but very old to tumblr. I live in the US, I'm 26 and use she/they pronouns.
I've been creeping on the tags for a while, but I finally made a blog just for writing. I'd love to share updates on what I'm writing, excerpts and talk about writing with other writers.
I'm currently writing my first novel, it's young adult high fantasy. I've written about 40,000 words in the universe, but I've recently finished a more detailed outline. So, I'm starting the real rough draft now that I know more of what I want to say.
A lot of my characters are queer and disabled, like me. I want to write books that are magical and that a lot of different people can see themselves in. I think fantasy serves as a cool conduit for imagining what the world could look like beyond a lot of the power structures we take for granted.
I'd love to follow other authors, particularly ones that are also working on longer term projects. I think it'd be cool to get feedback from people, or find other people who have been doing this longer and talk more about their thought processes. I'm open to following writers of all genres since I read them all and think there's so many cool things to learn from different styles!
Any advice on how to get started is appreciated, will be following anyone that interacts with this post.
I look forward to getting more involved in this community!

I made this for cara but thought I should use it to FINALLY make a proper pinned post on here! (image descriptions in alt text)
Hello everyone (:
Tumblr media
I thought I'd use this to properly re-introduce myself. These days I have a lot going on irl, so I'm not as interactive on here as I used to be. However, I love making new friends and getting to know their projects :D Some of my most important friends are from here, even if most of them are no longer active on writeblr (we have migrated to discord), so if you think we'd vibe pls shoot me a message!!
Tumblr media
What you can expect:
Started out as an artblr, then turned into a writeblr, now it's mostly me collecting inspiration, art and writing references, with some infrequent original writing wip/art posts ✴︎ — more info about tags and writing below the cut — ✴︎
✴︎ — #queer tag - I reblog a lot of queer related posts, particularly about aro/ace and gender related topics
✴︎ — #inspirational - art, writing, photography, nature/environmental issues related topics, history, paleontology, archaeology; things I find inspiring and fascinating :D
✴︎ — i love all of the creatures, fictional or real, but less in a "cute videos" and more in a "I love how our world works" type way. I worked at a wildlife sanctuary for a year after school and learned a lot there. one day i will be the forever home for an old cat nobody else wants
✴︎ — sometimes I still post art and or writing, though I guess there'll be more art on Cara if you wanna follow me there (less AI threat)
✴︎ — i study concept art, work as a freelance illustrator, and am currently working on my MA thesis project "Fragments of the Infinite"
✴︎ — my main wip novel (Dream's Shadow) is probably finally getting close to being Finished. Feels somewhat surreal. idk if it's even worth querying it because it really doesn't fit into the current publishing world but it's not actually finished yet anyway so... we can worry about that later
✴︎ — very into fantasy with cool worldbuilding in particular. don't much care for elves/dwarves/.. fantasy preindustrial england type worlds, but dungeon meshi is my current obsession so if it's deeply developed and interesting enough I don't really mind :)
✴︎ — hopepunk my most beloved! i do love when characters get put through the wringer to get to their hopeful ending though. Sometimes, things are tragic in a bittersweet way, and that is okay too
✴︎ — deeply nuanced, complicated, messy morally grey characters driving the narrative
I am open to tag games, but will probably only manage to respond to like 10% of them... it's not you, it's me
Always open for DMs or asks <3
I try to tag everything as well as I can, if i forget, ask to tag <3
If you're into TMA, I have a podcast/TMA blog @moth-song-archives; my rambling animals/shitposts/memes/other fandoms/... blog is @lirhin, and I have a dedicated art blog @siarvenart
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a hopepunk dark fantasy story with creepy/horror elements set in another world; small scope that transitions into epic fantasy later on
Status: draft 6.5 completed at 141k; currently mini-beta round. First in a trilogy
✴︎ —1st, 2nd and 3rd person limited, present tense ✴︎ — hopepunk, sibling dynamics, dysfunctional family, power of kindness & love, platonic love, queer characters, queer-embracing worldbuilding, mental & physical trauma, light & dark, secrets, tragedy, lies, betrayal, loss of innocence, holding on & letting go, cute creatures, (in)humanity, trees, religion & belief, growing up, monsters, dreams, nightmares.
When Ava and her parents arrive at the hospital, they find her older brother Ben in a deeply unnatural coma - and nobody can tell them what happened. Despite the magical abilities of the Asim Healers, there seems to be no way to save him. But then, why do they still keep him alive? As Ava slowly learns the magnitude of how terrible Ben's situation (and impossible his future) truly are, she finds herself embroiled in a larger conflict, ready to hook its claws into her as well. And the one person she cares about most - who always had her back - is gone. So despite everything, there's only really one choice: Find out how to save him and try anyways.
Tumblr media
the travel journal of a young scientist, documenting the cultures, places, people and creatures she encounters on the way (art/text)
Status: storyboard/script 2nd draft completed; beta feedback
✴︎ —1st person present ✴︎ — 66 double pages of art accompanied by ~10k text ✴︎ — hopepunk, (body) horror, religion & belief, nihilism vs making your own meaning, platonic love, queer characters, queer-embracing worldbuilding, transitioning with magical body horror means, mental & physical trauma, light & dark, deep worldbuilding, eldritch monsters, loss of innocence, SO MANY creatures
Features: a tidally locked planet orbited by 5 moons and populated by giant eldritch monsters; two trans aroace main characters; body horror; so much art; the most gratuitous worldbuilding project; character driven narrative
When the fifth moon hatches during Thorn's own naming ritual, making her one of 2 people who saw it happen, she knows she's been chosen. But back at home, nobody believes what she saw, choosing to instead take the moon's disappearance as a sign of celebration as it mirrors religious scriptures. So Thorn sets out to find physical proof, and uses the opportunity to document her travels. She doesn't know that her view of the world will be thoroughly challenged, but she also doesn't know about the friends she'll make <3
I have various other wips, some of them are linked in my header. I'll return to them at some point, but these 2 are my current projects for 2024:)

Author Ask Tag
Tagged by @volkoss my answers are not going to be as eloquent or insightful but enjoy I guess lol x
All of these are going to be about my current fic At Best You'll Find A Little Remedy. Which is about Emmrich and my Rook, Calliope!!
What is the main lesson of your story?
Um, intentionally - no main lesson. I think unintentionally, it's a story of Calliope learning to trust herself, in multiple aspects of her life, also to be more trusting of others. Also I wanted to explore the romance in Veilguard a bit more, and flesh out some of the interactions with not just Emmrich but the other companions too. And finally, I wanted to inflict/show some real-time trauma for them since everyone seems slightly too well-adjusted for the Horrors they are experiencing lol.
What did you use as inspiration for your world-building?
Basically, I had a passing headcanon that Calliope was in Emmrich's class as a student, and obviously why would she not have a crush on the handsome 35-40 year old teacher? and ran with it. First I wrote I'll Crawl Home to Her as a starting place for small interactions between the main quests, and then I started to build off those small scenes that's now ballooned into this multichapter fic! Also chapter 1 of this fic was basically - what if I wrote veilguard as a romcom novel.
Also I have a list of things I wish were explored a bit more in VG, so the plotline with the huge books in the Cauldron, an earlier first kiss scene, a [redacted] fight, and can't beat just hurt/comfort and more smut :)
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help them grow as a person?
On reflection, it's a bit of free therapy writing Calliope. Even though she's a couple years older than me, she is v much a younger version of myself. I was very reclusive and introverted (still am) but she is truly the extreme of me at my worst I guess? I definitely feel like I want her to grow and show that throughout the fic - at the beginning of VG she is very much running away from her problems, as well as longing to go home. She's definitely fighting her own demons in a continent without therapy so she is Struggling, but the team do help her a lot and it's the first time she's truly been confident at calling people friends (apart from Audric and Myrna but Myrna's her boss and Vorgoth is like a quasi-uncle).
I also took the chance to explore Emmrich's POV a bit through some interludes that take place. I think Calliope has such a puppy love towards Emmrich and truly has watched him afar for many years that I wanted to punctuate Emmrich only just noticing her, and how it's a quicker descent for him (that starts out a bit more lusty). It's very fun to write Emmrich's POV chapters, his voice comes quite easily.
How many chapters is your story going to have?
Currently sitting at about 22 chapters that I'm happy with the plan for(one of those will probably be split in two so maybe 23 is the answer?) - possibly more possibly less I'm going with the flow!
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Fanfiction babeyy, on ao3, some chapters have been cross-posted to tumble (before I decided to post on ao3 as a multichapter)
When did you start writing?
I wrote a couple of fanfics back in the day when I was a teen for HP and Darren Shan - I then didn't write for years until 2019 when I started to write for my Inquisitor x OC, but I've never had the balls to write their longfic it would be intense haha. Then only picked up writing again in November after doing Calliope's playthrough!
Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr?
just write!!! it's fun, it's therapy- post it or don't post it, someone out there will enjoy it, even if it's an audience of you!!

After many months of waiting for official paperwork to happen and lots and lots of procrastination, TMOWS is finally ready to enter the next stage: Beta reading for the English version!!
So, hi there writeblr community!!! 👋 If you're interested in helping me by beta reading my first novel, please keep reading this!!

Now for real, thank you so so much if you're interested in helping me with this!! You have my eternal gratitude 💕 Secondly, I'm opening 5-10 slots for people interested!! I'd like to at least have five beta readers since that's what I had for the Spanish version, but if by some miracle more people appear that want to help I don't want to reject them.

What I offer you is not money, but to add you to the Thank You section at the end of the book as well as offering to beta read for free any of your works, anything from short stories to a full novel.
When it comes to a schedule, I'll keep the slots open until the end of June or until they are all filled, whatever happens first. Then, I'll send you a PDF copy through your email on July 1st, and you'll have until September 30th to send it back with your notes. Author Ask Tag Game
A huge SORRY and thank you to @mjparkerwriting for tagging me in this waaaaay back in August (what the heck - how did this happen haha).
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
That sometimes being a strong, independent woman isn't enough. Sometimes we can't succeed alone or even with the help of loyal friends. Sometimes it really does take structural, systemic change and that change doesn't happen in a single life time.
As for why I chose this theme... I didn't really. I started with a premise (princess runs away from arranged marriage and accidentally falls in love with guy she was betrothed to). When I turned that premise into a plot with stakes I decided to have something that pressured the protagonist to go back to her marriage. The thing I chose was needing to prevent a war. The theme just kind of emerged from the tension between her saving her people and not being trapped in a marriage she didn't want.
2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
Southern England (loosely) in 1333 AD and some other cultures that would have been in contact with, bordering, or having diaspora in England (Wales, France, Breton, Al Andalusia, Persia, Byzantine Empire, Jewish diaspora, and like one thing from Scotland).
Other inspirations include a few Shakespeare comedies, how Tolkien uses English speech patterns to indicate social class, the Robin Hood myth, and Tennyson's poem "The Splendour Falls".
4. How many chapters is your story going to have?
Draft 2 had 15 chapters averaging between 3000-5000 words. I've already broken up one of those chapters in draft 3 and will probably break up more. So, at least 16? But I might split them all in half if I decide they are too many pages when I finally change the page size of my manuscript from standard word doc to book-sized. So maybe around 30?
6. When and why did you start writing?
The immersive daydreamer who loves to read to fandom to CinemaSins to film and tv show critique YouTube to writing advice YouTube to I'm gonna write my daydreams down so I can reread them for fun to I want to try my hand at a properly structured novel (but it's just for me) to dammit, I've put so much work in I want to polish this and publish it one day Pipeline is very, very real.
7. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers on Tumblr do you follow?
You can edit a bad draft. It is so much easier to fix something than to make something from scratch. Your first draft is not an adequate reflection of your abilities as a writer - neither is your second, neither is your third. Asking for help is a skill, rewriting is a skill, workshopping is a skill, googling writing advice is a skill, taking a break is a skill. Your novel isn't your best work until it's done - feedback, and breaks, and months of writer's block and all. Push through. You're not a bad writer, or a good one for that matter, until there is a finished product to judge. I know looking at an unfinished draft riddled with problems can be demoralizing but you will find those problems and you will fix them. Just be patient.
I'm gonna steal MJ's idea and tag seven of my "other writers" - seven because that's how many questions are on in tag game.
@zeenimf, @ambiguouspuzuma, @macabremoons, @lexiklecksi, @sleepyowlwrites (though you've probably been tagged 1000 times in this haha), @stesierra, @ettawritesnstudies

writeblr intro!
Tumblr media
Well, hello there! Welcome to my page! Thought I'd finally get around to writing and pinning an intro, seeing as my writeblr recommendations post has gone STRATOSPHERIC and I've followed so many new accounts!
I'm Jeb (he/him), 21 years old, and an aspiring writer, poet and disaster dork from New Zealand (who currently lives in the UK - England, to be more precise). I'm a huge lover of writing and reading science fiction works, particularly hard sci-fi - Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series and his novel The Songs of Distant Earth were the works that inspired a young me to start taking writing seriously. I also write fanfiction, romance, horror, a smidgen of fantasy, spy fiction... whatever takes my fancy, basically! I also love writing and reading poetry, and hope to have some of my poems published professionally by the end of 2023!
Outside of writing, I'm a huge motorsport lover. Formula One is my main passion, and in fact I originally joined tumblr to post about my then-WIP, The Edge Of Control. TEOC may be in cryogenic storage, but my love of speed and high-octane racing remains: I regularly watch F1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship. I also love spaceflight, astronomy, Shakespeare, teen movies from the 80s/90s (ESPECIALLY John Hughes' work), many cheesy romcoms and lasagna. (What? It's literally the perfect food!)
Right, now with all that out of the way, let's get onto the real good stuff... (sorry in advance for the lack of taglists, I haven't remembered how they work!)
links to my work:
jebberjabber on AO3 (my main account, for fanfiction) degnercurve130R on AO3 (for F1/racing works) KesslerCascade on Wattpad (for original works)
works-in-progress
You Can't Take It Back Now!
type: fanfiction (fandom: Bittersweet Candy Bowl, Webcomic) genre: romance (of the sapphic, friends-to-lovers variety) summary: Sue and Amaya have been best friends ever since they met in second grade. They're proudly inseparable, but when a secretive confession from Amaya turns into a sudden kiss from the assuredly-straight Sue, everything changes. Can they navigate their friendship while dealing with their rampant emotions? Is it just drama, or did Sue have more investment into their kiss than she let on? status: six chapters currently complete, with two published on AO3! Bi-weekly updates planned. link: You Can't Take It Back Now! on AO3
works published on Tumblr:
An Acquired Taste - In a post-cyberpunk/solarpunk imagining of 22nd-century New Seoul, a corporate engineer makes a chance meeting with a street vendor and makes an important discovery.
Executive Decisions - In an alternate history where the Cold War went hot, a US Air Force nuclear-bomber crew face a moral dilemma as they near their Soviet target. Operation Trident - A soldier experiences a combat drop on the Belgian coast, as part of an ongoing human offensive against an alien occupation force. Ignition Sequence - An experiment with a second-person perspective where the watcher observes a Space Shuttle launch in Florida.

╔══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══╗ 10 LEVELS ╚══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══╝
What is the main lesson of your story?
✧. ┊ There's a lot of stories in Ten Levels, but the main story focuses on Zero as he must traverse the ten levels to hold a final audience with the king, a desperate act of salvation and sacrifice. But this is not just a story of redemption—it’s a story about discovering purpose. It’s about letting go of the expectations that society places on you and embracing a life rooted in truth and love. Because to truly live, you must live authentically. You find purpose not in perfection or certainty, but in the moments of connection: in the differences, in the change, in the courage to care. There is no grand answer. Purpose is found in being real, in loving deeply, and in showing up for others—no matter what.
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?
✧. ┊ The world of ten levels is massive and I'm constantly working on it! I take inspiration from many places, from real world cultures, to media I like, the bible itself, and even my own interest in the sciences.
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? So you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help them grow as a person?
✧. ┊ Zero is trying to escape Hell, but more importantly he's trying to prove to himself he doesn't belong there. He's trying to find himself, and through him and his story I'm doing the same. I explore my life, my complex emotions, and my painful past through all my characters and stories. I want readers to see my works and know it's okay to not know who you are, and to be hurt, and that in the end it will all be okay. You can make it, no matter what. And you'll do it by just being yourself.
How many chapters is your story going to have?
✧. ┊ The main story of Ten Levels with Zero has eleven chapters technically. If I add in the many other side stories and spin offs I'm unsure o how many combined total they have.
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
✧. ┊ Completely original content! And I have.. no clue. I've never known how to share my work, and so most of it sits in my home among many folders and binders I look at by myself haha.
When did you start writing?
✧. ┊ I liked writing little stories in middle school, but I really expanded myself when I started highschool and met my now wife. They wrote these long, amazing stories and I was fascinated. We've been writing together ever since.
Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?
✧. ┊ Do not, under any point in time, lessen your writing or art for the fear someone else might not like it. Because the truth is, there will always been someone who doesn't like it. You're not writing to please everyone else, you're writing because it means something to you. Don't forget that, your words matter, your stories matter. Tell them no matter what.
═════════════════════════════════════════ Thank you @oros-ash3s for the tag!! Please, if you follow me do this!! I am really bad at remembering everyone's usernames but I really want to see y'all do this :>

Hello BigFourblrs/ROTBTDblrs! Bookishnerd, here!
Hello hello hello! I'm back at it again with a post. This time I want to officially re-introduce my Big Four OUAT AU Fic to the BigFourblrs out there.
I haven't updated the fic on AO3 since October, but I wanted to share here that I DO have something up my sleeve for it.
As of today's writing, my outline and vague plans have led me to believe that this fic will have 12 'episodes'. But if you know this fic and are up to speed on my recent big changes for it then you'll know that 12 is not exactly the final chapter number. Episode 1: A Strong Enough Belief has about 9 chapters out now, with one chapter left coming up next. Totaling to 10 chapters for that episode! I don't know if I'll be doing 10 parts per episode, but I'm already foreseeing that this is going to be a BIG FIC. WHAT IS The Big Four (Once Upon a Time AU), you ask? This fic was something I started back in my old Tumblr account, Bookishnerdhero. That old account was a mix of bookish things, fandoms, and writeblr, but I wanted to start fresh with this account dedicated to mostly fics, fanart, and fandom alone. Now, the BIG FOUR (OUAT AU) is an AU where the characters of the fandom, lovingly and chaotically named, Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons, come together in the style of the 2011 Fantasy Drama TV Series, Once Upon a Time.
The old version took too long for me to write, so I decided to cut each 'episode' into parts. There is an OLD VERSION of the fic, that I just keep for sentimental purposes, and a NEW VERSION that follows all the brand new ideas and changes I've wanted to implement on the fic. I feel like I've grown as a writer since my very long hiatus.
Tumblr media
HERE is the Summary:
Jack St. North is just an ordinary Sophomore High student from Dreamer Haven's, Dreamworks Academy...sort of.
He's more of a loner really; orphaned, invisible, living in-between sardonic pranks and the usual teenage angst when you basically have nobody and nothing. Things change when a little boy knocks on his door with a big brown storybook in his hand, telling him that he was actually from another world where fairy tales are real and dreams come true and that he, Jack, was actually one of the legendary Big Four.
Naturally, he doesn't believe it. The boy, Jamie, tells him that he needs to reunite with the Big Four, Rapunzel, Merida, and Hiccup, in order to break the curse that Pitch Black placed upon their real world.
Only with the four united could they stand a chance in solving the curse's threat. And based on Jamie's story Jack is sure he means his nerdy world history classmate and two other girls he'd just met from Disney High.
You can find the fic in AO3 here!

Writer Ask Tag Game
Thank you @mercury-waters for the tag! I answered these with my novel in mind; I'm playing it pretty close to the chest since I'm querying it now, so forgive my vagueness with some of these.
What is the main lesson of your story, and why did you choose it?
My novel doesn't have a lesson, and I didn't go into writing it with any themes in mind, so I can't say that any of the takeaways are there by choice (as is the case for basically everything I've ever written). That said, my novel is a story about existing in a society from which you are excluded, but without which you cannot live, and about finding meaning and closeness in a life that doesn't seem to have room for either.
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?
My novel is urban fantasy, so essentially the real world with vampires grafted onto it, but I've spent some time on the mechanics of vampires as they exist in my world. I draw some inspiration from Anne Rice (to an extent, while shaking my head the whole time to show that I disapprove), with a heavy dash of WWDITS (movie) and The Lost Boys for vibes; however, a lot of my worldbuilding usually ends up being "What interpretation of vampires in this specific instance is most interesting for me to write and moves the plot/develops the characters in the best way?" and then I just write that.
What is your main character trying to achieve? What are you, the writer, trying to achieve? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?
In the text of this novel, he's trying to figure out who's hurting the people he cares about and how to stop it, but as a character in his grander arc what he really seeks is a meaningful existence in the face of eternal, unchanging life. As for myself, I don't think about readers at all. I'm not interested in teaching anyone anything or inspiring anyone; I'm trying to write a story for myself that feels satisfying and narratively complete, and that I enjoy working on and reading. I'd love for other people to read and enjoy it one day, but readers are an afterthought to me.
How many chapters is your story going to have?
The final draft which is currently being queried to agents is 20 chapters. I have 4 more books planned, which I'm angling to be similar in length, but since chapter number isn't a useful metric to me I usually think in terms of word count--i.e. Book 1 is about 71k, and I'm aiming for 70-80k for each sequel.
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Original. You'll be able to read it sometime in the next 4-7 years, if my pursuit of tradpub goes well. (Or, if you can't wait and I happen to really, really like you, you can DM me and I'll send it to you privately)
When did you start writing?
As soon as I could hold a pencil and spell. When I was young I made those little kid "books" from folded printer paper, and it got out of hand from there. I did this cool thing called Power of the Pen in 7th and 8th grade where you basically write timed flash fiction based on prompts--handwritten, on carbon copy paper--and there are straight up regional and statewide competitions for this (I won best of round at regionals one year 💅). This was also my first exposure to having people misunderstand my art. I will never forget getting my scored stories back at one of the competitions and seeing that my favorite story scored the lowest, and my least favorite story scored the best--story of my life. I mostly wrote poetry in high school and college because I had issues and needed to get them all out of my system, and then got back to fiction in 2019 around the same time I finished undergrad.
Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr?
Keep doing what you're doing, and don't forget that you're doing this for you. You are your own best reader; never write for the uncharitable critic in your head.
What other writers do you follow?
Well first and foremost I follow (and live with, and am married to) the inimitable @synonymsfordismember, as well as the excellent @queergothic, @brightbluedot, @briannysey, @tifannilly, @darthteeth and as of recently @juliana-jones. Consider this a tag if you feel so inclined!

1 and 4 for end of year writeblr asks! <3
OMG!!!! hi and hello!!! thank you so much for stopping by the askbox!!!! :D it means so much!! i'm so excited to answer these! thank you again for taking the time and happy new year! <3
here is the link to this ask game is anyone is interested! :)
What was your writing-highlight this year? What made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?
The broad writing highlight for me this year was getting to write Silver Bullets, my MOTA one-shot story I've been developing this year. I have gotten to experiment with writing a multitude of characters, dynamics and relationships and have really found something I can enjoy and manage alongside my real life.
People also really seemed to latch onto the characters - which in a way, I felt was something I appreciated so much. I'm someone who always connects with the characters more than anything and so, receiving so many messages of people telling me how much they've connected with a certain character (such as Carrie or Judy or Kennedy), and that they see themselves in this character or want to protect them with their life - has just been SUCH a joy!!!!
This year, I hope to continue with that. Writing and enjoying every minute. Sharing what I can and when I can, as well as developing these characters to a final conclusion.
ALSO - hoping I can actually upload on AO3 (if the time somehow manages to come to me lmao)!!!! This year has just been very rewarding for writing for me - the characters, the plots, the storylines, the relationships and the dynamics. And knowing others equally love it? It means the world! :)
4. What is your favorite line you wrote this year?
So, I have put out two other favorite lines I have written this year, both of which I was really loving on, and I am beyond happy to put out another one that I think really cultivated the love for Silver Bullets this year! <3
"A single, tactile thing that can essentially be a game-changer, changes tides, send waves," Annie supplied quickly, looking up from her beer in record time, " I never got to meet Captain Faulkner but Lieutenant Carlisle told me that Faulkner named the fort herself. Folklore or whatnot."
This is stated by Annie in this piece, and one of the reasons I love it so much is, we get a convo going on a few major topics on why Silver Bullets came to be: (1) where the name Silver Bullets came from and its definition, (2) Captain Birdie Faulkner's memory to the SB girls and (3) mentions of folklore, which is always something fun, especially in the face of someone questioning haha! The entire piece though is some of my favorite writing for Silver Bullets! :)
thank you so so much!!! <33333

Writeblr Introduction (finally): N. Roy / words-after-midnight
Because I've been here since December and still haven't posted one of these.
Tumblr media
[Updated 22-07-2023]
About me:
I'm Nico (he/him), a 32-year-old chemist moonlighting as an author of dark adult contemporary crime fiction and horror. I'm based in Tio'tia:ke, colonially known as Montreal, where I live with my 10-year-old cat Saturday and most of my chosen family and friends. I plan to publish under a pen name similar to the one on my blog (ie. not my real name - I like to keep my different "lives" separate). You can read more about me here. I love tag games and ask games and interacting with folks on here! I especially love the Find the Word and Last Line/Heads Up Seven Up games, so please never feel like you're annoying me by tagging me in those. I also love any and all music tags!
What I write:
My novel-length projects - 95% what I talk about on this blog in terms of my writing - are predominantly (though not exclusively) in the realm of adult contemporary crime fiction, usually in combination with horror, thriller, docufiction, and/or psychological fiction. All of my novel-length works take place in the same universe, and are all - either directly or indirectly - connected to each other.
My short fiction is typically either contemporary litfic, slice-of-life, crime/procedural, or experimental horror. Most of my existing short fiction is currently being submitted for publication (or in the process) to various literary periodicals.
I write and submit freestyle poetry on occasion.
My forte is writing well-developed, messy, typically queer characters who exist on a continuum between morally gray to morally bankrupt, as well as complex, intense, and/or dark relationship dynamics. Other things I love writing and featuring in my stories include:
Small casts (I typically focus on 1-3 central characters)
Symbolism, motifs, and foreshadowing
Found/chosen families and homes
Exploration of dark real-world themes, including themes involving mental illness, trauma, and recovery
Intense and/or introspective narration
Faster-paced narratives
Trope subversion
Social commentary
Experimental narrative styles
Unconventional formatting
Genre-blending
Complicated endings
What I read (with some exceptions here and there):
Crime thrillers/dramas
Psychological thrillers/dramas
Contemporary horror (not into supernatural or fantasy horror unless the premise and/or themes are very intriguing)
Litfic with darker plots/character relationships
Mysteries (especially murder mysteries)
Dystopian and/or realistic speculative science fiction
My projects:
I currently have three active WIPs, which you can read more about under the cut. You can also find general information about all my projects here.
